Pilla's Reading Corner: Wiesław Myśliwski - "The Horizon"
- by Daniel Pawlik
"For one sees what one feels. One does not see only with one's eyes." - Wiesław Myśliwski - "Widnokrąg" (The Horizon)
One of the last books I read, thanks to the kindness of a good friend.
A novel about life, growing up, and passing away, with World War II in the background. Perhaps it doesn't have a full plot with many twists and turns or surprising narrative developments.
However, something makes it (read: the author's talent/craft) a very enjoyable read, and the descriptions of life in the countryside/city allow us to feel the spirit of those times. Tragic times (World War II), in which life nevertheless had to go on and did, and feelings, daily worries, concerns, and desires are here, alongside the characters, as equal protagonists of this novel.
However, read with great concentration, because frequent narrative jumps require the reader to pay attention and be patient with this story. In my opinion, it's worth it.
Finally, as usual, I will quote 3 more opinions from other readers from the Lubimyczytac.pl portal:
A very interesting book, the adventure flows like water in a river, seemingly nothing is happening, yet it's hard to look away.
Rating: 8/10
Not for reading with flushed cheeks. For savoring, reflection, pausing, communing with beautiful language, observing the moment.

This is an amazing book. No one else can so keenly extract so many emotions from – seemingly – mundane situations. The author transforms every everyday event into something extraordinary. Everyone will find themselves here, because it is a story about our sorrows and joys, about the vicissitudes of fate and about the horizon of our lives.

Autumn colors at home – shades that bring peace and warmth
Do you remember autumn from your childhood, when the leaves changed color like a kaleidoscope, and your mom would pull out the pumpkin-colored sweater she'd worn since college? Or those evenings in front of the TV while a storm raged outside, and the lamplight in the house gave everything a warm, amber hue? Those were the days when no one talked about "color palettes" or "color stories"—colors simply existed, as natural as breathing. Today, when we can choose from 50 shades of gray (and no, I'm not talking about THAT book), we sometimes lose track of what truly makes a home feel cozy. At Pillovely, we believe that autumn colors aren't a trend—they're a return to what makes us feel safe. Because "You are someone"—someone who deserves a space filled with colors that snuggle like a grandma's blanket.
